Lonesome Dove RV Ranch Joe Jones

The best thing about Lonesome Dove are the people. Every Friday night the owner,Joe, barbeques wild game, brisket, turkey or whatever, Everyone meets for one expansive Texas barbeque. Twenty-four people live there full time and many of the others are Canadians or Northerners who come year after year. They have something going every night: cards, bonfires, potlucks. The girls even go line dancing on Friday mornings!

Seminole Canyon Pictographs and Petroglyphs

The photos don't really show how amazing these pictures are. They are some of the most colorful that we have ever seen. They had been in a sheltered cave so have been fairly well preserved.

Piedras Negras, Mexico

The border along the Mexican side has a very nice walkway along the Rio Grande. We were the only gringos we saw this Saturday afternoon. Lots of people are spooked about going to the border towns. This town of 100,000 felt safe to us. At the reservation there were Border Patrol trucks and  Kickapoo police everywhere.
The plaza across from the cathedral has some wonderful sculpture.

The end of the earth??

So Bob says I told you when we married that I would take you to the ends of the earth, but I didn't realize one of the places would be Kickapoo Indian Reservation! We were camped two weeks in the parking lot of the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino near Eagle Pass, Texas. We can see the Rio Grande and Mexico from the parking lot.
We had wild chickens running around and dogs chasing cars as we watched from our "yard" chairs. This was an experience we won't soon forget!

Del Rio, Tx river walk area

Everyone and all the parks have smoker barbeque. The wonderful smell is every where :)

Record Cold in Texas

It actually snowed a bit. We had multiple days of freezing temps. Boise was much warmer

So much for leaving the cold behind for warmer weather.

Spoiled Puppie

Yes, Mother, I am really letting the puppies lay on the table. They need to see out, don't you think? I do wipe it off before we eat!

Del Rio, TX

Our first job is in Del Rio, Texas. It is on the Mexican border, south and west of San Antonio. It is situated near a large reservoir Lake Amistad, that is part in the US and part in Mexico.

Our trainers

Training was well done by Jerry and Ellen Hopkins. They are fun Texans who have been selling full time for three years. The have a luxurious rv home. She was a princess in the Rattlesnack Rustling Contest in Somerville, TX when she was in high school:) She described how you rustle a rattlesnack into a bag!

Speeding across Texas

OOps! So much for the leisurely traveling. We need to make it to Uvalde, TX on Friday to start our training. We drove 5 hours to Fort Stockton and then to Uvalde. Texas is scrubby and flat. The signs marked rivers, creeks and draws are dry. I guess they have water in the rainy season because there are all these signs that guage rain flow like we have for snow!

Deming, NM

St. Clair Winery, the largest winery in New Mexico
The Pink Store, across the border in Palamos., Mexico. Lots of stuff and good food.

Tuscon at Ellie and Tom's house

Patterson's house is even cuter on the inside than the outside.. The picture Rob drew of Che' hangs proudly over a door! Ellie took Sara cycling and hiking. It will probably cost Sara a bunch of money because she fell in love with a new bike! We visited Bisby with Tom and Ellie. It is an old copper mining area with a cute historical downtown area.

Ehrenberg, Arizona on the Colorado River

This is the favorite park so far! It's right on the Colorado River, has a nice patio and grassy area for all campers. We have been in Nevada, Callifornia and Arizona today.

Vegas

It warm!!!! We can finally winterize the trailer. The puppies loved meeting new friends in the LV doggie
park. We gambled $3 and lost it all on the nickel machines. What big spenders! We are seeing how the full time rvers live. Met a former principal from Melba, who new lots of Kuna people that Sara knows. He and his wife have been wintering in LV rv park for 14 years!

Ely, Nevada

Camping at -5 degrees; why is it we were the only ones in the campground? The price was right, $10 a night:) We watched the playoff game in their cozy warm bar, watching the big screen!

Actually Heading out in the snow! January 10th

Heading out

January 10th is the preordained day to leave this cold, cold place. What do you pack for three months at wherever we end up?
